Citing an "arbitrary deadline" set by Republican lawmakers, President Obama has rejected the permit for the Keystone XL oil pipeline. TransCanada, Keystone's parent, claimed the project would lead to 20,000 jobs in the U.S.

CNN reports that environmental groups and Democrats have long opposed the controversial project.
