Pa. bridge First in Line for Stimulus Funding

September 28, 2010

Work started last week to repair the structurally deficient Beaver-Rochester Bridge — the first use of federal stimulus money in western Pennsylvania — and Gov. Ed Rendell made sure everyone was aware of that on Wednesday.

Rendell staged an appearance under the bridge to outline the importance of the federal stimulus program known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Pennsylvania.

The Beaver-Rochester Bridge is one of three bridges in Beaver County — the others are the Koppel Bridge and the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge over the Beaver River — built the same way as the one in Minneapolis that collapsed in 2007.
