In Februrary 2014, Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber instructed the state’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to develop rules for the next phase of the Oregon Clean Fuels Program. The program was approved in 2009 by the state legislature, and aims to reduce greenhouse gas pollution by lowering the carbon content of transportation fuel.
The new rulemaking will establish requirements for the program by setting carbon reduction standards and compliance options, defining obligations for fuel importers and producers, establishing metrics for monitoring fuel supplies and prices, and establishing periodic program reviews.
Advisory committee meetings will be held May through July 2014.
