Not Only Better Equipment, but a Better Way to Work It

Staff | September 28, 2010

The new equipment on display at Conexpo-Con/Agg 2008, held March 11–15 in Las Vegas, will be nothing shy of outstanding, but new machinery needs well-trained workers able to operate safely. Hence, new additions by show organizers this year will focus on industry safety training and the need for a qualified workforce:

  • A Safety Zone exhibit area will feature live demonstrations and information resources focused on jobsite safety. Exhibiting groups include federal government organizations such as Mine Safety and Health Administration and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The International Powered Access Federation will also be on hand with its Click It campaign.
  • The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, a show sponsor, will hold its first-ever Mixer Driver World Cup competition, designed to recognize the exceptional talent and skills of concrete-mixer drivers from around the world.
  • Show sponsor/organizer, Association of Equipment Manufacturers, will hold the finals of its teen-oriented Construction Challenge with the goal of spurring interest in construction careers and spotlighting industry contributions to quality of life such as good roads and clean water. About 50 teams are expected to compete in three areas — awareness of construction-related jobs, construction equipment and manufacturing, and infrastructure awareness.
