The $8.9 billion Sasol ethane plant reached one year of construction with about 3,300 workers on site and plans to hire approximately 1,700 more, reports KPLCTV. Sasol released information that 80 percent of its workforce came from local hires in Calcasieu, La., where the project is located.

The ethane cracker project includes six downstream derivatives plants and $35 million in infrastructure improvements. Once the plants are built, they will be phased into operation starting in 2017.
