Minnesota Drops 1,700 Construction Jobs in January

March 13, 2015

Despite large-scale projects taking place in Minnesota, the state has lost 1,700 construction jobs in January. According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), January was the third consecutive month of declines in the sector, totaling 6,700 jobs lost.

The downward revision was primarily driven by slower labor force growth than previously estimated, with over-the-year labor force growth between 2013 and 2014 at 8,400 versus the original estimate of 18,660. The labor force participation rate ended 2014 at 69.6 percent rather than the 70 percent initially estimated.
