Mid Year Plans for Fleet Replacement

By Rod Sutton, Editorial Director | May 23, 2014

In its 2014 Annual Report & Forecast, Construction Equipment reported that equipment professionals were hoping to replace an average of 9.4 percent of their equipment fleet this year.

Six months later, partnering with sibling publication Roads & Bridges, CE asked the question again as part of an overall mid-year questionnaire. The sample is different, including members of both magazines’ subscription bases, but the responses give us an indication of fleet-management expectations at mid-year 2014.

Almost two-thirds of respondents expect to replace some portion of their fleet of equipment and trucks this year. About 22 percent said they will replace 1 to 5 percent of their fleet, with another 22 percent planning to replace 6 to 10 percent. About 6 percent plan to replace 11 to 15 percent of their fleet, and another 15 percent expect to replace 16 percent or more.
