Michelin Introduces Tire-Safety Training Program

September 28, 2010

One-hour modules teach mechanics and managers how to stay safe around giant tires.

Michelin is launching a training program to raise awareness of tire safety at mines and quarries. The program is designed to explain safety practices to managers, maintenance personnel, equipment operators and support staff, and will be delivered by MSHA-certified Michelin field sales people or by the safety team at the mine or quarry.

"A stronger tire safety plan can help mines and quarries significantly reduce safety incidents and improve productivity," says Kaan Demirel, market segment manager for mining at Michelin. "This program will give personnel at all levels the knowledge and tools needed to create a safer work environment, which will also help reduce costly repairs and machinery downtime."

The Earthmover Tire Safety Program includes 12 one-hour modules that include such topics as Tire Selection and Limits; Delivery, Storage and Handling; and Tire Shop Work Environment.
