The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that the permanent reconstruction of Beach Boulevard in Bay St. Louis, which includes roadway reconstruction and utility installation, has been awarded to Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. of Florence, MS, for $5.97 million. URS Corporation of Jackson, MS, has been selected to provide construction engineering and inspection on behalf of MDOT.

“The city of Bay St. Louis is proud to partner with the Mississippi Department of Transportation and Hancock County in this reconstruction project that will be accomplished with 100-percent funding from Hurricane Katrina Emergency Repair funds and would not have been possible without the cooperation between these agencies,” said Bay St. Louis Mayor Eddie Favre.

Beach Boulevard was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since that time, the roadway has been open with a temporary limestone surfacing treatment while the city has worked to do local utility and road work. The project is scheduled for completion in January of 2010.
