Scott D. Martin, EVP of Martin Resource Management Corporation (MRMC), announces the formation of Martin Asphalt Company (MAC) — a vertically integrated, strategic and long-term source of all grades of asphalt and raw asphalt materials to be headquartered in Houston. The new company is being formed through the purchase and amalgamation of Prime Materials and Supply Corporation, Gulf States Asphalt Company and Martin Product Sales-asphalt, all of Houston.
Martin Resource Management Corporation (MRMC) is a privately owned family business with over 1,500 employees. Founded in Kilgore in 1951 by R.S. Martin Jr. it today is a holding company for several operating subsidiaries, including: Martin Product Sales, Midstream Fuels, Martin Transport, and an interest in Martin Midstream Partners. MRMC holdings include 22 marine terminals across the U.S. Gulf that store various liquid products, including asphalt, which is transported via its marine fleet of nine asphalt barges, a truck fleet of 50 asphalt trailers and various rail logistics.
Prime Materials and Supply Corp. (PMS) is an asphalt emulsion manufacturer founded in 1987, with production facilities in Houston and Port Neches. Prime produces and keeps in inventory a wide variety of asphalt emulsions manufactured to TxDOT, ASTM and AASHTO specifications.
Gulf States Asphalt Company (GSAC) began in 1947 as a supplier of paving and roofing asphalts. The company features a computer-controlled, in-line blend system which efficiently mixes asphalt cements to required specifications every time and produces an extensive product line of roofing asphalts, all grades of paving and PG Asphalts, vinyl tile and wooden screed adhesives, and precast concrete joint sealants.
MRMC has appointed William F. O'Leary, founder and president of Prime Materials and Supply, as the vice president charged with the operation of Martin Asphalt Company. O'Leary has worked in the asphalt paving industry for over 25 years. Prior to starting PMS, he was on the staff of Elf Asphalt. He served two terms as president of the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association and is current president of the Foundation for Pavement Preservation (FP2). He is also a current appointed member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Pavement Maintenance A3C05. Most recently, O'Leary was elected vice chairman, Major Associates Division, of the Texas Asphalt Pavers Association (TAPA).
