The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System recently led law enforcement in Southern California to bust a large commercial theft ring involving a total of 13 pieces of stolen equipment valued at more than $226,500. One suspect was arrested on June 15th, and the investigation is ongoing.

About the Bust
On April 5, 2011, a 2006 Sullair Compressor equipped with the LoJack System was reported stolen from a national equipment rental company. The theft was reported to police and within 30 minutes of system activation, deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station and detectives with the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) tracked the silent LoJack signal to a large property in Menifee, CA that housed a multitude of construction equipment. There, they questioned an individual who informed police that he had purchased the compressor, as well as five additional pieces of equipment – all of which were found to be stolen – from the suspect who was ultimately arrested in Perris, Calif.

After obtaining information, RAID detectives conducted a follow up investigation. At a property in Perris, detectives found eight additional pieces of stolen equipment, as well as other, smaller hand-held equipment. The suspect claimed to have purchased all of the stolen equipment from an unidentified group of people, but could not provide information on how to find them.

A surveillance video was obtained that has shown several additional suspects deemed to be operating a theft ring. The investigation to apprehend these suspects is ongoing.
