Liebherr Tunnel Excavators Bore in Stuttgart

Oct. 30, 2014

Two Liebherr R 944 C tunnel excavators are being used for drilling work deep below the streets of Stuttgart, Germany, as part of a massive Stuttgart-to-Ulm commuter rail expansion. The project includes a number of tunnels for high speed rail, ultra-modern stations, and miles of new train line. It is expected to be finished in 2021. The tunnel excavators feature unique attachments, protective devices to guard against mechanical and thermal damage, and special ergonomically designed cabs in response to repetitive and difficult operating conditions.
