Komatsu Ltd. reported net sales for the six months ended September 30, 2014, increased 1.9 percent. Net income was down 1 percent.

In the Construction, Mining and Utility Equipment segments, sales increased slightly from the corresponding period a year ago, supported by firm demand for construction equipment in North America, Europe and some other regions as well as the Japanese yen's depreciation, which compensated for slack demand for mining equipment and a drop in demand for construction equipment in China, according to the company. Segment profit also improved due mainly to improved selling prices and benefits of the Japanese yen's depreciation, which compensated for adverse effects of reduced volume of sales.
