Komatsu Ltd. announced its third-quarter financial results for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2015, reporting gains in income and sales.
For the quarter, net income rose to 38.5 billion yen ($326 million), up 5.5 percent from 3.65 billion yen ($309 million) a year earlier. Sales totaled 494 billion yen ($4.1 billion), rising 6.4 percent from the same period the year prior.
Net sales in North America for the first nine months of FY2014 totaled 227 billion yen ($1.9 billion), a 12.7 percent increase from the same period the previous year.
In the construction, mining and utility equipment business, demand for construction equipment remained steady in industrialized countries, centering on North America and Europe, the company says. In North America, demand for construction equipment offset the lack of demand in the mining industry and energy sector.
Komatsu has made no change in the projection of FY2014 business results, which indicates a 6 percent increase in operating income and a 1.5 percent decline in sales.
