Although Komatsu updated the WB146-5 and WB146PS-5 backhoe-loaders with Tier 2 engines, the company says they redesigned them from the ground up. Both machines have an operating weight of 16,090 pounds with a 1.25-cubic-yard loader bucket. The WB146-5 has a heavy-duty one-piece welded mainframe; and new S-shaped backhoe boom is narrower and stronger for increased visibility, lifting capacity and breakout force. With its telescopic arm, the backhoe can reach digging depths up to 18 feet 4 inches. Parallel lift linkage for the front loader keeps loads level throughout the lifting and lowering cycles. An optional hydraulic attachment coupler allows the ability to add forks for tool-carrier operations.
