Kenworth introduced a factory-installed twin steer option for its Kenworth T880 vocational truck. The
new configuration is aimed at users in jurisdictions where weight laws favor a setback forward steer
axle and an 86-inch axle spacing to gain maximum load-carrying capacity.
Available as a day cab, the new Kenworth T880 Twin Steer with set-back front axles is ideal for crane,
mixer and other vocational applications. It joins a previously announced T880S Twin Steer with set-
forward steer axles with a 61-inch spread for jurisdictions where weight laws require longer distances
T880 Twin Steer models use two 20,000-pound-rated front axles, with supporting suspensions and
steering gears. The front suspension is equalized between the two steer axles for proper payload
distribution and good driver comfort. The Twin Steer package also includes aluminum fenders over the
second axle and abbreviated steps between the axles for cab access. Several battery box locations are
The T880 offers both the Paccar MX-13 diesel rated up to 510 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft. of torque,
and the Paccar MX-11 engine with up to 430 horsepower and 1,650 lb-ft. of torque. The conventional-
cab model is standard with a 116.7-inch BBC short hood, while a 122.6-inch standard BBC hood is an
option for the MX-13 and the optional Cummins X15 diesel.
A T880 Twin Steer is among Kenworth models displayed March 10-14 during the ConExpo-Con/Agg
show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The truck has a Custom Truck crane, 505-hp DD-13 diesel
and Allison 4700RDS 7-speed automatic transmission.
