Job Figures Increase Pressure on House for Highway Bill

March 26, 2012

As many as 1.87 million jobs could be at stake if Congress doesn't come to agreement on a transportation bill before the March 31 deadline, according to Senate figures, along with the potential loss of   $93 million a day in gas taxes.

These figures come as the House this week considers its version of the highway bill, with key differences from the Senate-approved plan.

The Chicago Tribune reports that President Barack Obama urged House members to "put aside partisan posturing, end the gridlock, and do what’s right for the American people."
