J. Don Brock, Founding Member of Astec, Dies at 76

Dr. J. Don Brock, one of the four founding members of Astec Industries, died at the age of 76 in Chattanooga, Tenn. from complications of mesothelioma cancer.

Dr. Brock was a member of AEM’s Bituminous & Aggregate Equipment Bureau for many years. He was inducted into the AEM Hall of Fame in 1999. 

Dr. Brock earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee and a master’s and doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. 

He won multiple national and international awards and held more than 100 U.S. and foreign patents. 

Dr. Brock was chairman of the board and CEO of Astec until 2014 when his son, Ben Brock, became CEO of the company. Dr. Brock remained chairman of the board of Astec until his death.
