IPAF Provides Safety Guidance For Exiting Platforms at Height

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released updated guidance on exiting a platform at height.

September 17, 2015

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released updated guidance on exiting a platform at height. The document states that people should only enter or exit the work platform at access positions at ground level or on the mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) chassis.

MEWPs are specifically designed to lift people to a position where they can work at height safely within the platform and not designed for the purposes of transfer or exiting at height.

The document outlines criteria for rare cases where MEWPs may be used to gain access to or from a work area at height, where exiting the platform at height may be permitted, what hazards should be considered in the risk assessment, and what control measures should be taken.
