Iowa Putting Federal Funds To Work

Des Moines, IA— Iowa is wasting no time putting federal stimulus funds to work as transportation officials awarded their first construction projects using stimulus dollars. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 19 highway and bridge projects totaling more than $56 million are moving forward — using a portion of the approximately $358.2 million in federal highway stimulus funding appropriated to Iowa.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 19 highway and bridge projects totaling more than $56 million are moving forward — using a portion of the approximately $358.2 million in federal highway stimulus funding appropriated to Iowa.

Among the projects are a $16.6-million bridge replacement and pavement overlay project in Fremont County; a $14.5-million bridge replacement and pavement overlay project in Mills County; an $8.2-million grading project on US 61 in Lee County; and a $6-million grading and reinforced concrete box culverts project in Lee County.
