Hunter Industries has completed a $48.8-million upgrade to IH 35 through New Braunfels six months ahead of schedule. Crews upgraded this segment to eight main lanes and frontage roads from just south of SH 46 north to north of BUS 35. The work included upgrading the storm sewer structures and rebuilding the bridges at FM 306, Bus 35, SH 46 and "No Name Creek" on the northbound frontage road south of SH 46. IH 35 in New Braunfels carries more than 88,290 vehicles per day according to the 2005 Traffic Map. The work that began in May 2005 was scheduled for completion in September 2007. From the start, Hunter Industries was committed to the early completion. They offered changes to TxDOT's original schedule, enabling completion of the frontage roads in the early phases instead of late in the project and opening the northbound main lane traffic to its complete three to four lanes a whole year earlier than planned. Hunter Industries, being a local contractor based in nearby San Marcos, used their familiarity with the community in their approach to this project.
