Houston Voters Approve Tax Extention for Transportation Projects

November 7, 2012

Houston voters passed a referendum that allows the Metropolitan Transit Authority to continue diverting sales tax revenue to road projects.

The program will now run through 2025. One-fourth of the 1-percent sales tax collection is currently shared with the city, county and 14 other municipalities for road, bridge, sidewalk and other nontransit projects, reports the Houston Chronicle. But that percentage could shrink to 19 percent over the course of the new program.
