How many pickup trucks do you think are registered in the United States? According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the number is more than 39 million, and ¾-ton and 1-ton models are accounting for an increasing percentage (nearly 32 percent in 2005) of the total. These larger trucks, says Goodyear, generate more torque than ½-ton models, and the extra torque can accelerate tire wear, especially on vehicles that are heavily loaded. Its new Wrangler Silent Armor Pro-Grade tire, says the company, is a good match for heavily loaded, high-torque trucks. The tire incorporates a new chip- and chunk-resistant tread compound that enhances service life, and two steel belts and a DuPont Kevlar belt (two in load-range E sizes) help absorb road noise and smooth the ride. The new tire fits most popular working trucks and is sold with a 50,000-mile tread-life limited warranty and a 30-day, no-obligation trial period.
