Georgia Budget to Fund Several Construction Projects

April 6, 2015

The approved Georgia budget is expected to pay for new construction projects for the state.

The budget includes $1.1 billion in borrowing for construction and equipment purchases. The bond package also includes $100 million to replace and repair bridges throughout the state and $75 million for transit projects.

The bond package is the largest funding effort since the Great Depression.

Lawmakers also approved a transportation funding bill that could potentially pump another approximately $900 million into road and bridge projects.

Georgia lawmakers approved $63.3 million in new construction and improvement projects at the University of Georgia’s Athens campus. The funding will also go toward other projects, including a new library in the city of Marietta and purchasing construction equipment for the new Georgia Film Academy.
