Federal Funding Focuses on Existing Infrastructure

The U.S. Government Accountability Office has indicated that, on average, 6 percent of federal highway funding was allocated toward new highways and bridges, according to Roads & Bridges.

Of the $41 billion distributed among the 50 states, nearly 6 percent was devoted to new infrastructure, while 15 percent added new capacity to existing infrastructure. Forty percent was used for maintenance or rehabilitation of existing roads and bridges.
