Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Final Rule Made Clear

An uncomplicated explanation of the Final Rule going into effect October 25, 2016

September 28, 2016

Last August, the Department of Labor and Federal Acquisition Regulatory Councils published “Guidance for Executive Order 13673, ‘Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces’” aka “the final rule”.

The Final Rule (available here from the Federal Register) contains guidance for disclosure of violations of 14 federal laws in 90 pages and is directed at contractors and subcontractors  who engage in government contracts valued at over $500,000.

JDSupra Business Advisor has posted Reporting Guidelines for Government Contractors which offers a good breakdown of the final rule's coverage. Written by Garen Dodge and Hilary Habib of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, the post does not offer legal advice but does go a long way to help managers and company owners who may not be directly responsible for HR functions understand what the rule includes.

The first reporting requirement deadline is October 25, 2016.
