The January EquipmentWatch INDEX includes a quick snapshot of price, volume and age trends observed during July 2015. The INDEX is a free monthly resource for critical thinkers in the construction equipment industry to make better informed heavy equipment decisions around price, market share and equipment age metrics. The INDEX is compiled by our analysts and fueled by more than 500,000 data points from EquipmentWatch Values.

Over the past month, here are a few highlights of what we've observed:

January 2016 in Review

  • Construction Equipment: January saw aggregate prices decrease from December levels across the country, while the average age of top equipment on the auction market decreased by 1.5 years.
  • Lift Trucks: Resale prices for lift trucks on the east coast and in the northwest increased over December levels, while the rest of the country experienced aggregate price drops.
  • Agriculture: Prices and volume were down for most of the nation; Texas saw a 19% decrease in price and a 49% decrease in volume from December to January.
  • Commercial Trucks: January showed large resale volume increases for commercial trucks as the number of sales were low, the number of trucks sitting on dealer lots increased since December.
