Engineers Raise Quality Concerns Over Honolulu’s Rail Construction

May 6, 2016

With over 1,100 NCRs on file to date, some are wondering if there is a serious problem with Honolulu's 20-mile rail system build. Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) says the biggest problems have to do with concrete. Nearly 30 percent of the West Oahu NCRs have been related to casting problems, concrete voids, and spalling.

KHON2-TV in Honolulu began to investigate the rail project after being alerted by their viewers about rail pillars and spans that look off-kilter, even cracked. HART said not to worry, it would all be lined up later and broken pieces replaced. Click here for KHON2's video report.
