In September, I was fortunate to get yet another chance to feel what it’s like to be at the controls of powerful construction equipment.

Thanks to the folks at Miron Construction, I visited IUOE Local 139’s training center in Coloma, WI, to operate a lattice-boom crawler crane.

With patient advice from instructor Todd Liebelt - an accomplished crane operator - I had the opportunity to appreciate the thrill of swinging, booming and hoisting in an 80-ton-capacity lattice-boom crawler crane.

Like the other recent opportunities I’ve had to operate construction equipment, it was educational and exciting.
