In yet another blow from the downturn in the mining market, Caterpillar has announced it will close a plant in Kilgore, Texas, eliminating 100 jobs.

"The production of dippers made in Kilgore will shift to another Caterpillar facility in Wamego, Kan., and ballast box production will shift to our South Milwaukee, Wis., facility by year end," said Caterpillar spokeswoman Rachel Potts in the Peoria Journal Star. Caterpillar's Q3 earnings, announced last week, were off 44 percent from 2012.
