DOT Official Calls for GPS Standards

Deputy Transportation Secretary John Porcari told a House Aviation Subcommittee that the government should set up interference standards for GPS, according to a report in Computerworld. The move would effectively eliminate conflicts with companies, such as LightSquared, that might offer cellular services.

LightSquared has been denied licensing based on its interference with GPS signals, upon which machine control devices used in construction depend.
