It's called an excavator-tool carrier, but the Ditch Witch XT1600 is designed to perform the duties of three different machine types: a backhoe-loader, mini-excavator and compact track loader. With 260-degree coverage, the excavator end of this rubber-tracked hybrid compares to a dedicated excavator in the 3- to 4-metric-ton class. With hydraulic flow of 26 gpm, at up to 3,000 pounds per square inch, the tool-carrier end accepts most skid-steer attachments. The controls for the XT1600's ground drive, excavator and tool carrier are incorporated into the operator's station, and the seat can be rotated for multiple operating positions. Estimated list price: $60,000.
