Deere & Company says that 325 employees of the construction and forestry division will be placed on indefinite layoff later this month at two factories due to depressed market conditions. The layoffs are in addition to previously announced reductions in those factories.
The company said the layoffs are effective March 30th and include 220 employees at Dubuque Works and 105 employees at Davenport Works. Deere said layoffs are based on seniority and that employees were told of the plans in meetings at both locations. In February, Deere reported that sales of construction and forestry equipment had deteriorated more than expected.
