May employment numbers revealed another loss among construction workers, with construction companies cutting 28,000 jobs, the most in two years.
Overall, the nation's unemployment rate ticked up to 8.2 percent. About 69,000 jobs were added, less than expected. Estimates of 87 economists surveyed by Bloomberg ranged from increases of 75,000 to 195,00.
The participation rate improved to 63.8 percent from 63.6 percent.
