Construction Job Gains "Lamentably Small"

March 12, 2012

In November and December, 47,000 jobs were added to the construction sector, according to AGC data.

The 13,000 job loss in February is "probably more of a seasonal correction than the start of a new trend," says Ken Simonson, AGC's chief economist. Nevertheless, the unemployment rate for the industry stands at 17.1%, and gains are "lamentably small."

Also in The Construction Index, Simonson notes that a half-year of steady improvement means "the worst has passed."
