A piece of construction equipment fell six stories and hit a worker at a University of Scranton building project Wednesday morning.

The victim, a subcontractor with sprinkler company S.A. Comunale, was conscious and alert when an ambulance took him to Community Medical Center at about 9:30 a.m., authorities said.

A piece of a rough terrain forklift plummeted at least 50 feet before hitting the ground and rebounding into the worker, said Capt. Tom Cadugan of the university's campus police.
