February 22, 2018

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross appeared Thursday on CNBC's Squawk Box program and when asked if he would advise the president to the raise federal  gas tax, Ross said, "The funding of infrastructure is a very key issue. There is a certain degree of logic to creating some semblance of user fees, and certainly, users of highways are one potential source for that."

Commerce Secretary Ross: Gas tax is 'one of many' ideas Trump is considering from CNBC.

Ross' opinion Thursday is 180 degrees different that his view voiced in December 2014 on Fox Business when he said raising the gas tax was a "horrible idea" and would hurt middle class citizens.

CNBC reported President Trump is considering increasing the federal fuel tax by 25 cents in order to fund his infrastructrue plan. If Congress passes his gas hike, the tax on retail gasoline will go up to 43.4 cents a gallon and diesel fuel tax will rise to about 50 cents per gallon.
