All the leading international construction equipment manufacturers including Caterpillar, Terex, Manitowoc, Komatsu, Hitachi, Kobelco, Volvo, Liebherr, Wirtgen, Fayat, Doosan, and Hyundai have manufacturing bases in China through joint venture, wholly owned investment, or acquisition. For some, China is an important global manufacturing base, such as the Manitowoc’s tower crane factory in Zhangjiaguang.
Chinese construction equipment manufacturers such as XCMG, Zoomlion, Sany, LiuGong, and Shandong Heavy Industry have also established manufacturing bases in other countries including Germany, the United States, Italy, Poland, India, Brazil, and Belarus through acquisition, joint venture, and wholly owned investment. Zoomlion acquired CIFA in 2008, Sany bought Putzmeister in 2012, XCMG purchased Schwing in 2012, LiuGong acquired Dressta in 2012, and Shandong Heavy Industry purchased Linde Hydraulics in 2012. The Secretariat of the Crane Technology Committee of ISO was transferred to China from British in 2012.
China construction equipment holds many world records.
- Zoomlion developed the largest upper swivel horizontal boom tower crane with lifting torque of 5200 tonne meters in the world in 2010, which played critical role in the construction of a number of bridges over the Yangtze River.
- In 2012 XCMG have developed 4000 tonnes of crawler cranes, the largest crawler crane in the world, for the construction of nuclear power plants.
- In 2013, Zoomlion developed the carbon fiber boom concrete pump with highest boom of 101 meters in the world.
- On September 7, 2015, Sany created the world record of concrete pumping height of 621 meters in Tianjin.
- Yongmao Building Machinery developed the largest topless tower crane with maximum lifting torque of 3640 tonne meters in the world in 2016.

The operational mileage of China high-speed railway has exceeded 30,000 kilometers, which ranks first in the world. The piling machinery, concrete machinery, lifting machinery and concrete beam carriers for the construction of railways are almost made in China.
The operational mileage of China expressways has exceeded 130,000 kilometers, which ranks first in the world. The earthmoving equipment and road machinery used in the construction of roads are almost made in China.
The operational mileage of China subways has exceeded 1,000 kilometers, which ranks first in the world. The shield machines used in construction are mostly made in China.
The total length of bridges in China ranks first in the world. The piling machinery, concrete machinery and lifting machinery used in construction are almost made in China.
The construction of nuclear power stations in China is the fastest in the world. The key equipment such as 3000 tonne class crawler cranes used in construction are mostly made in China.
The Chinese construction equipment also plays great role in the construction of water conservancy, power, petro-chemical, and civil engineering.
