Construction on Caterpillar’s Tucson mining building is still underway, developing the 150,000 square-foot structure into a plaza for shared public and private use. The mining center will also feature 500 parking spots within a two-story parking garage, with the bottom level underground.

Approval for the project was granted in June of 2017. The Rio Nuevo group, which oversees a voter-approved development district to bring jobs and investments to Tucson, spent $4.8 million to clean up the landfill the project is now being built on.
