Caterpillar will move two production lines from its Joliet, Ill., plant to Monterey, Mexico, eliminating 230 jobs.
Three years ago, workers at the plant went on strike for three months in an effort to prevent Caterpillar's plan to reduce health care and pension benefits. The strike ended when voters reached a six-year labor agreement in August 2012.
In a statement, Caterpillar said the "company has since completed all analysis and determined to remian cost competitive, it must move forward with the transition."
The transition it expected to begin in late 2016 and be completed in the middle of 2018.
