July 20, 2011

Analysis of Chinese market data by The Wall Street Journal indicates that Sany has overtaken Caterpillar in the sales of hydraulic excavators. The article, published online today, cites a lack of investment in production facilities as a primary cause.

The report acknowledges the advantages Chinese companies have in their home turf, citing government incentives including tax breaks.

According to data the Journal obtained from Off Highway Research, 2010 market share data for hydraulic excavators placed Komatsu at 15 percent, Sany at 9 percent, and Caterpillar with 7 percent of the market.
