Replacing Caterpillar's C-Series mini hydraulic excavators, the new D-Series maintains the compact frame of its predecessor while gaining performance upgrades. The 8-ton 308D delivers 22 percent higher bucket breakout forces over the C-Series, 10 percent more stick forces, and 15 percent more rim-pull. It's powered by an Interim Tier-4 turbocharged engine at 54 horsepower, and includes load-sensing hydraulics and variable displacement axial piston hydraulic pump. The 17,306-pound excavator has a maximum reach of 22 feet and maximum dig depth of 15 feet 2 inches. Estimated list price: $100,000 to 110,000.
