Caterpillar to Cut 1,400 Jobs in Belgium

February 28, 2013

Caterpillar plans to cut 1,400 jobs at an excavator factory in Gosselies, Belgium. Some 3,400 are currently employeed at the facility.

Caterpillar cited Europe’s weak economy and high labor costs, which the company says makes it more cost-efficient to import machine to Europe instead of making them at the Gosselies facility.

The plant is one of Caterpillar’s largest.
