Caterpillar is closing its mining equipment headquarters in Oak Creek, Wis., and moving the 250 administrative jobs to its South Milwaukee campus, reports Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Caterpillar said the action is part of corporate-wide cost reduction efforts and a slump in the mining industry.
The consolidation will begin late this year and be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
"These are salaried professional workers in finance, human resources, legal, marketing, etc. — many folks who had been working in South Milwaukee prior to the opening of the Oak Creek mining headquarters," said South Milwaukee Mayor Erik Brooks told JS.
