Fuel Management creates three operating modes for a Caterpillar 988H wheel loader — Full Power, Balanced Power and Max Fuel Savings. The system always maintains a top engine speed of 1,800 to 1,900 rpm while the machine is digging. When the machine is not digging, in Full Power mode maximum engine speed runs up to 2,120 rpm for high production. In Balanced mode engine speed outside the digging cycle is maintained at 1,800 rpm, and in Max Fuel Savings mode the non-digging engine speed drops to 1,700 rpm. Cat says Balanced and Max Fuel Savings modes can cut fuel consumption by 10 to 15 percent. Fuel Management is standard equipment on all 988H wheel loaders.
