September 01, 2002

CaterpillarDesigned to help mining operations reduce costs, the 797B mining truck increased its payload from 360 to 380 tons. Other improvements, including an increase in engine horsepower from 3,400 to 3,550, enable the truck to reduce hauling cost per ton by 3 to 5 percent when compared to the previous model 797. The 797B has an operating weight of 1,375,000 pounds—about 30,000 pounds more than the 797. New, higher-capacity tires from Michelin allow the increase in GVW and have a rated load of 115 tons.
