Caterpillar D-Series Wheel ExcavatorsThe upgrading of Caterpillar’s mid-sized excavators from the C-Series extends to the wheeled models. Each of the new D-Series wheel excavators achieves greater performance and reduced operating costs through the use of a Cat ACERT engine with the Cat common-rail fuel system, a new dedicated hydraulic pump for the excavator swing function, and a new heavy lift mode that boosts lift capability by 7 percent at the touch of a button. Opening up the operator’s sight lines, the glass is affixed directly to the redesigned cab, eliminating the need for window frames. The new M313D, M315D, M316D, M318D and M322D models range in operating weight from about 31,000 to 48,000 pounds, and in net engine output from 127 to 166 horsepower.
