The first three models of Caterpillar's D Series excavators feature Tier-3 engines with ACERT technology. The 188-hp Cat C7 in the 324D L (54,660 pounds) is 12 percent more powerful than the 322C it replaces. The 325D L gets a 204-hp C7 with 8 percent more horses than the 325C, and the 330D L (79,700 pounds) with a 268-hp C9 is 9 percent more powerful than the 330C. Hydraulic pressure is turned up to 5,080 psi, delivering more stick-digging force and more bucket-digging force, depending on model.
