Caterpillar 988G wheel loader Caterpillar has updated its 988G wheel loader with the new Cat 3456 engine, which is Tier II compliant and delivers 475 net horsepower and 42 percent torque rise. The unit retains its box-section boom and front linkage design, electro-hydraulic controls, system-matched buckets and comfortable operator's station. It has a rated payload of 12.5 tons and handles buckets from 8.2 to 9.2 cubic yards. A new, sculpted engine block provides greater strength, reduced weight and lower noise levels, Cat says.
