Strikers at Caterpillar's Joliet, Ill., plant will vote tomorrow on a proposed contract. Some 800 machinists from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers went on strike May 1.
The Chicago Tribune reports that workers claim their union's district office brokered a tentative agreement with the heavy equipment maker that offers a $1,000 bonus, but scant improvement over an earlier proposal. The contract is said to double health care premiums and eliminate pensions, along with diminishing seniority rights.
